The Peaceful Narwhals Video – "Hello Friend!"

Hi wonderful friends! Here is the first video from Session One of April Eight Songs for Peace Music + Arts Camp from our super sweet superstars, The Peaceful Narwhals! This song is called, “Hello Friend!”

I loved how this song happened so let me tell you the story… The first few lines popped into my head the week before camp. I liked the idea and I wanted to develop it into one of my own songs. I wrote those first four lines, and then nothing else really came to me. The next day I worked on it again, but no good ideas flowed out. Hmmm….

I decided perhaps my campers might have the spark that I was missing, so on Tuesday of camp I introduced the song idea to them. They RAN with it! Such a joy to watch them navigate the creative process.  They’d dream up lines, we’d hone in on what they were really trying to say. They’d shout out the same thing ten times, we’d decide we needed to go in a new direction. Kids are so free-flowing. We’d get a whole verse and then sing it through and they’d light UP with enthusiasm for what they’d just created. What a feeling! And then to brainstorm more and more until they’d written a whole sweet song about joy, sharing, togetherness, and the delight of friendship. It became our POP HIT!

I really do “La-la-love being your friend!”

YAY for the Peaceful Narwhals!

Hello Friend!

Hello, good morning, good afternoon
It’s good to see your smile, my friend
My best friend
Forever and always
Haven’t seen you in awhile,
But your smile makes me happy, my friend.

The way your eyes sparkle I can see you really shine
When you share your heart with me
Then I can share back mine.
It’s your personality, your joy,
your kindness and your laughter,
your trust and your hugs keep us
Happily together.I la-la-love being your friend
I la-la-love being your friend
