When is a Pinata Not a Pinata?

When your child can’t bring herself to break it…

We had so much fun constructing the dolphin shape, tearing up the
newsprint, making the paper mâché paste, making a big gluey mess, and painting that when it came time to fill it with candy and hang it for her friends to smack with a stick, my daughter couldn’t bring herself to do it.

So the morning of the party we quickly filled a paper grocery bag with
confetti and candy, taped together the top and decorated the exterior
with tissue paper we’d fringed and glued. The kids had a blast whacking that piñata with a bat. No problem!

The dolphin became a sweet decoration and all of the girls at the
party “oohed” and “ahhed” over it.
